“ On Fox, the news exists in order to generate controversy. And controversy exists in order to generate resentment. And the resentment is what generates ratings. So this is my most concise idea about Fox: we should consider it “resentment news.” I think that’s the genre in which it trades… ”— Jay Rosen, “Resentment News (and More Blondes Per Square Foot): Explaining What Fox News Channel Is” (via ryking)
I’ve realized one thing today: People don’t like it when you tell them that the products that they’re using are harmful because of the ingredients. They don’t want to come across as ignorant or come across as someone who’s made the wrong choice. I have made wrong choices too. And I am actually using some pretty harmful cosmetics and it worries me to no end. However, I refuse to close my eyes and not read anything and remain ignorant. We all have a right to educate ourselves of the danger, of what’s better for us and for everyone around us.
I don’t know how I am going to manage to get rid of all the harmful chemicals around me. But I am going to try my best. The last thing I want to do is die of cancer. I probably sound crazy, right? Feel free to unfollow me. I won’t get offended ;)
I have actually listed every item in lush that doesn’t contain SLS’s But for now here is a list of SLS free soap lush gave me. Thought I’d share the knowledge.

Thank you for this list! I have been looking for one. I have really dry skin which gets itchy because of SLS. I would hate not using LUSH. This helps me a lot. Thank you.
This is extremely sad and pissing off. Please read this comment posted by A Lexie Tomey on Lush Limited:
My response on Facebook:
Has anyone seen the documentary Food, Inc? It really makes you wonder how your meat is prepared and where it comes from. Most animals are actually kept in very deplorable condition. How do you think meat is kept cheap whereas fresh vegetables are more expensive in markets?
Also, Lexie, I don’t understand how you got the idea that we need to eat cows to control their population…India has a lot of cows who are perfectly healthy. In fact, a lot of Indians don’t eat cows due to religious reasons. I haven’t EVER heard there being a cow population problem? It’s the human population growth that is more worrisome to me. It’ll be nice if you can suggest a solution to that.
I totally agree that MOST farming is done for profiteering! Hardly anyone is running an NGO relating to farming these days? If you were to trace back the origins of meat production, almost all of them belong to 3-4 extremely profit thirsty corporations. Small farmers who would rather rear their chicken, cows etc. in an open field find it very difficult to survive because most of them are under contracts to sell an X amount of meat every quarter to fulfill their share of the contract. If they don’t provide X, their contracts don’t get renewed. Almost every year, X increases because corps. want more profit! So guess what happens? More and more animals are stuffed into small spaces and given less nutritious food.
Unless you buy your meat directly from a farmer’s market, I doubt your meat has been produced the right away.
The sad part is, I think I know who this lady is. I have seen her making posts on LUSH San Antonio’s page :-\ I might have bumped into her at one of LUSH’s parties. Makes me sad to think that such ignorant FOOLS exist on this Earth. For all their smartness about buying natural LUSH products (which aren’t so natural anyway), they go ahead and post such IGNORANT comments. Le Sigh.

Got a pretty generous sample of this shampoo with my first order. Lasted for at least 8-10 washes. Initially, I was pretty bowled over by this. Made my hair really clean and voluminous. Just for the record, I have black hair. It’s slightly wavy! People think I have moderately thick hair. I think it’s thin ;) Anyway, moving on…now that I am done with my sample of this shampoo, I’m not sure if I like it…first off, it’s extremely difficult to use. Doesn’t lather at all, which I don’t mind really. But it won’t clean my hair if it’s oily. I have to use A LOT of it to get my hair clean. My hair gets greasy within 2-3 days and I think a lot of it has to do with SLS. The more I read about SLS, the more I’m convinced. Doesn’t help that all of LUSH’s shampoo have SLS.
Also, I found this shampoo to be really drying compared to my regular shampoo. I had to had to use a conditioner right after. The official description of the shampoo says that it will impart a slight color to my hair…didn’t notice anything of that sort happening. I might not have used it enough. And I did color my hair about a year back and a lot of it is still there in the lower tail ends….
Rating: 6/10. Won’t buy. Thank you.
“ We have recently begun to replace sodium lauryl sulphate with a milder surfactant, sodium coco-sulphate. This new material is kinder to the scalp, but still cleans the hair effectively ”—
I’m so glad!

Great…still not enough though… I think I am gonna stop using their shampoo.

BURT’S BEES IS TOTALLY RUN BY DARK WIZARDS!!!

Why is it so difficult for you, dear TBS, to ship my stuff on time??? :( Been more than 3 business days since I placed my order. Booooooo!
“ Consumers “walk down the aisle in the grocery stores’ health and beauty area, and they’re confronted with ‘natural’ at every turn,” says Daniel Fabricant, vice president for scientific and regulatory affairs at the association. “We just don’t want to see the term misused any longer.” To prove his own bona fides, Mr. Replogle grabs a bottle of Burt’s Bees avocado butter hair treatment, squeezes some onto his finger and dramatically licks it off. He then passes the tube to two Clorox executives so they can have a taste. “If you can’t put it into your mouth, you shouldn’t put it on your skin,” he says. “I’d like to see other companies do that. ”— Can Burt’s Bees Turn Clorox Green? - New York Times
by Jacquelyn Ramsey—- Great article! Really explains how soap is made, what today’s soap contains and where and what to look for before you buy detergent…oops- soap!
I am soap crazy. Had gone to Walgreens to get something else! Spotted this in the beauty isle and couldn’t resist! Have always been a big fan of Yardley. :) Supposedly natural and NO SLS!

Once I hit puberty and started getting a lot of pimples, my Indian mom suggested that I use Rose Water to wipe my face every couple of hours using a cotton pad. She used to buy me Rose Water (very similar to what’s pictured above) that was contained in a glass bottle with a metallic screw-on lid.
I am not sure when and how I forgot about this age old recipe… probably ever since I came to the US :) The climate here is different. My face doesn’t get sweaty/sticky anymore. Anyway, even though I am no longer a teenager (actually 26 now), recently I started getting a lot of pimples. LUSH’s Herbalism and Grease Lightning, The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil line and pure Tea Tree Oil have helped me a lot recently. All the big pimples are gone now.
Mom brought up Rose Water again. I promptly got a bottle from the International Store near my place…I was looking for an India-made Rose Water (which is what I have always used). Unknowingly, I bought a bottle of 100% pure rose water by Cortas (Made in Lebanon) for only $1.99. Yes, $1.99 only. On Amazon, it sells for $5.50~. I didn’t know that Lebanon makes some of the best :) This bottle is really fragrant. I simply love it!
How to use it?
If you have dry skin like I do (or even if you have oily or normal skin), try using this as a skin freshener. Simply wet a piece of cotton wool w/ rose water and wipe your face. Let your face air dry. You’ll love the cooling sensation. Rose water is excellent as a light cleanser and a natural toner. You can also dilute it with water and store it in a spritzer to use as a face mist :) Rose water helps restore the pH balance of your skin. It makes dry skin less dry and oily skin less oily! Best of all, it’s natural :)
