"Tell the chef, the beer is on me."
AppScout/ Kyle Monson
“The same week that the former Fake Steve Jobs/current real Dan Lyons writes that you can’t make huge amounts of money blogging, the Non Society ladies roll out a new plan to make money on lifecasting.
The site launched July 13 of last year, and is run by Gawker icons Julia Allison, Meghan Asha, and Mary Rambin. It’s essentially their three streams of consciousness, with constant updates, video clips, photos, and links to whatever interests them on the Web on a given day.
A new update launches today which throws advertising into the mix, and introduces a few UI tweaks to the customized Tumblr design (all content is now horizontal, laid out like a timeline). As for the ads, Non Society says “It’s one thing to expose our lives, it’s another thing to go broke doing it!” Fair enough. There are the usual contextual—and ugly—Google text ads at the bottom of the site (which, if Lyons is right, they might as well do away with), and a box ad at the end of each girl’s timeline. The ads are also supplied by Google right now; I’m assuming they’ll be replaced by “real” ads at some point in the future.
But as the money gets thinner for online advertising and even for ad networks like Glam Media and Federated Media, maybe the real value…”
Exactly what I was thinking when I saw those ads. They look ugly and hideous. How many hits do they get anyway? Plus who’s stupid enough to click on those Google ads? Why spoil the look of the site for a couple of hundred bucks? Surely they don’t need that money!
aja:
- people who are just back from a really awesome run
- people who are involved with “computers”
- DJs
- DJs at the airport
- DJs who are drunk
- people who don’t have anyone’s email address
- people who are mad at television
- people who have forgotten how to email
- people who have forgotten how to text
- people who are involved in “social networking” and optimizing the power of re-Tweeting and “computers”
- people who can’t find a reasonable picture of themselves
- people who really like the news
- DJs at the airport
I think this might be true. I have more time now compared to what I had when I was busy “Tweeting” and “networking”. I have discovered that I can live without it.
So this happened last night…(panda bear in subway = awesome)
So lovely. I miss the randomness that defines NYC.

I love the new tumblr look! So much has changed while I was away. My favorites:
Ability to view posts that I’ve liked so far Follower counts on the 1st page “Trends” section- fab New GUI of course
I’ve been feeding my Bath & Body Works fixation since the past couple of weeks. Have managed to waste several hundred $$$ on stuff that I don’t even need. Thank God that the Semi-Annual Sale will be over on 1/25. I won’t step into that store after 1/25, unless there is a coupon of course. :-\
I wish I were in DC now! Really wanted to watch Obama and the general chaos on the streets. Can’t believe that I was staying just a block away from the US Capitol less than 2.5 weeks back. :-( Oh well.
“ A Texas death row inmate with a history of mental problems pulled out his only good eye and told authorities he ate it. Andre Thomas, 25, was arrested for the fatal stabbings of his estranged wife, their young son and her 13-month-old daughter in March 2004. Their hearts also had been ripped out. He was convicted and condemned for the infant’s death. ”— The Associated Press: Texas death row inmate pulls out eye, eats it
“— Conn. man’s last lotto ticket wins $10M for widow - Yahoo! NewsOn the day that Donald Peters died, he unknowingly provided financial security for his wife of 59 years and their family.
Peters bought two Connecticut Lottery tickets at a local 7-Eleven store on Nov. 1 as part of a 20-year tradition he shared with his wife Charlotte. Later that day, the 79-year-old retired hat factory worker suffered a fatal heart attack while working in his yard in Danbury.
On Friday, his widow cashed in one of the tickets: a $10 million winner which, in her grief over her husband’s death, she had put aside and almost discarded before recently checking the numbers.

All that money burnt away…what a shame. Haha. Not to mention the environmental pollution caused. US contributes the most!
Haha Ikr? But whats worse it that Hawaii ranks pretty high for cleanest air in the nation! Which is where this photo took place.
“lkr”? I would think that means “lurker” in SMS language? Hawaii is still a part of US and a part of this planet ;) Can’t deny that eh? The President elect might not be from mainland US, but he’s still from the US. So, since Hawaii ranks pretty high for cleanest air in the nation doesn’t mean that it’s any excuse for causing pollution and bringing it down in the ranks…your fellow mates will hate you for that. It should stay that way. The country is more important that any state being.
Don’t wish to be preachy, but your post struck a nerve. Of course, you are free to do what you want for all I care!
PS- Dunno why you called me a lurker. I’ve been following you since ages. And you are one of my 200+ followers too. Thanks.
